Exhibition
Check-in 7am-9am/ Judging 9-2pm
Jump right in—this event is easy to enter and all about showcasing your bird’s unique qualities.
On your registration form, you will be asked for information about birds and how many birds you are interested in showing. Because this is an official show where your placing matters in the world of poultry showing, you must know your breed class, breed type, variety, gender by age, and have a leg band number to identify each bird.
Check-in for your birds will be from 7am-9am, and judging will be from 9am-2pm. Experienced, certified judges will look at every single bird throughout the day and decide who is the very best-looking based on their breed descriptions. Judges use the descriptions in the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection and the American Bantam Association Standard of Perfection to compare birds.
You can win in different areas. Two key awards are "Best in . . ." and "Reserve . . ."—essentially 1st and 2nd place in each category. While there are many ribbon categories, the judges ultimately select just one Best of Show bird from all breeds entered. Last year, they judged over 700 birds!

- Breed Class: This refers to the entire category of birds that are considered similar. The classes are: Large Fowl--American, Continental, AOSB, English, Mediterranean, Asiatic; Bantam--RCCL, SCCL, AOCCL, Feather-legged, Modern Game, Old English; Bantam Ducks; Waterfowl—Ducks (light, medium, heavy), Geese (light, medium, heavy); Turkey; Guinea.
- Breed Type: This refers to the specific breed your bird belongs to.
- Variety: the specific color or comb description of your bird. Examples could be black, quail, wheaten, speckled, bearded, single comb, and more.
- Gender by age: Poultry under 1 year are cockerels (K) for males and pullets (P) for females. Poultry older than 1 year are adult cock birds (C) and hens (H). This lets the judge see that young birds are still growing compared to older, larger birds.
- Leg Bands: You do not need a leg band number when you register, but each bird must have a leg band on show day to prevent mix-ups at check-out.
