Exhibition
Check-in 7am-9am/ Judging 9-2pm
This is one of the easiest events to enter and is completely based on the qualities of your bird(s).
On your registration form, you will be asked for birds' information and how many birds you are interested in showing. Because this is an official show where your placing matters in the world of poultry showing, you must know your breed class, breed type, variety, gender by age, and have a leg band number to identify each bird.
Check-in for your birds will be 7am-9am and judging will be from 9am-2pm. Experienced, certified judges will be looking at every single bird throughout the day and will decide who are the very best looking compared to their breed descriptions. Judges use the descriptions in a book called the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection and American Bantam Association Standard of Perfection to compare birds.
There are different areas you can win in. You will often see two areas called
"Best in . . ." or "Reserve . . ." This is like saying 1st and 2nd place in whatever category you were judged. There are many categories to win ribbons in but ultimately the judges choose just 1 Best of Show bird from all the breeds entered. Last year there was over 700 birds to compare & judge!
This pyramid shows how winners are chosen and all the ribbon placements available. Click on the buttons below to see some of last year's winners & prizes!

- Breed Class: this refers to the entire category of birds that are considered similar. - Breed Type: this refers to the specific type of breed your bird is a part of.
- Variety: this refers to the specific color or comb description of your bird. Examples could be black, quail, wheaten, speckled, bearded, single comb, and more.
- Gender by age: Poultry under 1 year of age are referred to as is for cockerels-boys (K) and pullets-girls (P). Adult cock birds (C) and hens (H) are for poultry older than 1 year. This helps the judge know that young birds may still be growing compared to older, bigger birds.
- Leg Bands: It is okay if you do not have a leg band number for your bird when you turn in your registration. You will, however, need to have one on each bird on the day of the show. This it to make sure there are no mix ups or misunderstandings at check-out.
